On 11th Sep. 2001, when the World Trade Center buildings were attacked, thick black smoke filled the whole area. People could not see anything. Many smashed the windows and broke it for fresh air and many started jumping from the floors above the 90th. One person who watched all these things, described the scene, "People were jumping from high rise buildings and burning bodies were falling. Some locked themselves in groups and jumped out of the buildings because they could not take the heat and smoke anymore." Then he said further, "I do not have any rest in my mind. Whether I close my eyes or open my eyes, I see the same scene. I am unable to sleep."Another woman said, "When I saw people jumping and falling from above, I said, O, my God, this is not movie, these are real people falling... they have life." She said with tears, "I stood there and kept on saying this again and again."One three year old girl who lost her father in this tragedy was unable to understand why her father is not returning home. She asks her mother every day, "Where is dad, why he is not returning home, when he will be back?" Her mother said to her, "Dad died in this tragedy." Then she cries and says, "OK, Dad died, but when he will be coming back home." Her mother said, "It breaks my heart and I go crying for two hours, this is everyday routine." Young children lost their mother or father or both, waiting for their parents to come home but they are unable to understand why they will not return home anymore. Yes, New York City and the whole of America is hurting badly and is restless. One year passed by but wounds are not healed completely. But the Bible says in Isaiah 65:10, "Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, And the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, For My people who have sought Me." Valley of Achor was a place where Israelites saw defeat, death and destruction. Their very lives were in danger but God says, "He will make valley of Achor a place of rest for those who sought Him." Today He is saying the same thing for New York City that, "He will make it a place of rest and peace." You may be hurting badly but if you look to Jesus, He can turn around your situation and make you a blessed person. He will heal your wounded soul and wipe away all your tears. He will give His peace that world cannot give. Jesus said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Yes, He is calling you, will you hear His voice and come to Him and find peace and rest in Him."

What is discerning of the spirit? Bible speaks about 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit. One of them is Discerning of the spirit. Many times I heard people speaking about these gifts. They were so misleading to people as they generalize these precious gifts. They keep them in general categories. For example Gift of wisdom and knowledge they call it as general knowledge or intellectual of people or so on. But you must know that it is not an ordinary knowledge or human wisdom but it is supernatural. These gifts don’t work with ordinary human intellectual, but it comes by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. These gifts manifest and operate only on those people’s lives who are anointed by the Holy Spirit or spirit filled. Please make no mistake about it; unless you are spirit filled you cannot have these gifts. 1 Cor 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”1 Cor 12:8, “for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, “ 1 Cor 12:9, “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,”1 Cor 12:10, “to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.”1 Cor 12:11, “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”Now lets move and see what is the gift of discerning of the spirit? How this gift operates in one’s life. What are the wonderful things that takes place when this gift operates. How precious this gift is?This gift works in different ways. Today we are going to see few things.1. Discernment about good and evil people2. Discernment about evil spirits3. Discernment about witchcraft1. Discernment about good and evil people: If this gift is upon your life it could tell you the thoughts of a person or what is going on in somebody’s mind. What intentions are in the heart of a person? The person in front of you is speaking the truth or lies. We meet many people in life some are known and some are very unknown to us. But if you have a gift of Discernment upon you, with one look you could realize the situation. You could look at the face of a person and could tell what is going on. Wow!!! Is it not marvelous? Do you not want to read the heart of a person???… Well be careful it is not a Psychic reading. It is not done by the help of demons or witchcraft. We could find that this gift was operating in Peter’s life. He was the disciple of Lord Jesus Christ. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit were working through his life. Ananias and Sapphira sells some land but they keep some money for themselves. They might have thought that nobody is going to know it. Ananias comes to Peter and says “this is the money we got out of that land, please take it.” Peter was not there when they sold the land. He did not know how much amount they got or for how much money they sold the land, but Holy Spirit knows everything. You cannot hide anything from God. Peter had the Discerning of the spirit. He could know that Ananias wais telling lies. Peter asks Ananias “why did you lie to the Holy Spirit.” Acts 5:3, “But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?” Acts 5:4, "While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." Acts 5:5, “Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.”Ananias fell down and died then and there. It is very sad when we forget that there is a God who knows everything, who is all knowing. Nothing is hidden from Him. You cannot cheat Him. But how many times we forget this truth. Now what happens to Ananias’ wife Sapphira? She too comes to peter and says the same story. Peter says, “how come you both have decided to lie to the Holy Spirit. She too dies. Acts 5:9 Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out." Acts 5:10 Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.Gift of Discerning of the spirit is a very precious gift. This gift helps you to escape from trouble. I want to share some of my own experiences. I believe this will bless you. It was the month of March –April 1996 I guess. We were in India. We (my brother, sister and myself) had to go for a Conference to preach in near by town called Vidisha. So we stood at Railway station to board the train. As train was 1-1/2 hrs late we had to wait. Suddenly I saw a young girl in her 20’ coming down from stairs. She looked very beautiful with her modern dress and short hair. Her looks should tell that she is from a good and wealthy family. But suddenly Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “watch out, she is not a good girl.” So I said to my brother “I feel that something is wrong with her, keep an eye on the luggage and guard your wallet.” As soon as she got down from stairs she straightaway came and started talking to us. She asked, “If we are waiting for certain train and she said she has to travel in the same train.” After some talk she left. She looked little different than any other Indian girl. She was roaming on the platform and was looking little restless. Meanwhile she was staring at us too. Later we felt that she is not alone though she pretends to be alone, but there may be 2-3 boys also with her. Well cutting long story short finally train arrived and we boarded the train. But to our surprise she never boarded that train. As train was leaving the platform she was still on the platform.If you have Gift of Discernment you could know the heart of a person and could escape from coming danger. Let me share one more experience with you. May be two years back we were in a Church to attend a service. We (my family) were sitting on the last bench. There was a man who was totally stranger to us. As I looked at his face I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit. “Watch out, something is wrong.” Every time when you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, it would be very much clear and you know that God has spoken to you and you know what could be wrong. So I was keeping an eye on him. I rebuked all the spirits upon him and was constantly in prayer. He was standing leaning on the sidewall all the time though there were lots of seats empty to sit on. Service was over and we had to go for dinner. So we went while I was fully alert. I knew that God who spoke to me would protect us. In the dinner hall he looked more weird. He was all the time hanging around with my brother. Well meanwhile he knew that I was alert and watching him, so he was not very comfortable. Finally we finished our dinner and left the Church. While returning home I discussed all the matter to my family members. And I was surprised to know that my brother and other family members also felt the same way. My brother said, “I too felt that something was wrong.” Gift of Discernment is a precious-precious gift. We need this gift in this last hour. We see everywhere chaos and turmoil. No one is safe in this hour as everywhere we hear about riots, war and commotions. If you want protection you need this precious gift. Ask for it and receive it. God is not a partial God, you can have this gift, whoever asks receives it. Don’t you think that you need this precious gift, which could alert you at the time of need? This gift helps to know the mind of an evil person. 2. Discernment about evil spirits:Second thing this gift does is to help to know the presence of demons. As soon as you confront a demon possessed person this gift alerts you about it’s presence. You could know whether the person is demon possessed or not, you could know how many demons are there. You could cast out demons through this precious gift, even you could know if all the demons left or not. What a wonderful gift. Gift of discernment is not a human intellectual or ordinary knowledge, which could be gained in school. It is not the trick or some magic to visit ten houses or people and collect some information and say, “God said so.” It is a divine experience, which can be attained only by the help of God’s spirit. Bible speaks about demons and its attacks. We find in Bible many times that Lord Jesus Christ delivered people from demons. Mark 5:8, “For He said to him, "Come out of the man, unclean spirit!" Mark 5:9, “Then He asked him, "What is your name?" And he answered, saying, "My name is Legion; for we are many."Here we find Lord Jesus Christ is casting out demon spirits from a man. Man had many demons and Lord delivered him. Gift of discernment is specially given to a person for this reason. If you have this gift you could cast out demons. 3. Discernment about witchcraft Many people do witchcraft and they invite trouble in their own life. I saw many homes that had mentally ill people. When you look at the root most of the time you will find that somebody in that home or family is practicing witchcraft. Many times the people who look mentally ill may not be mentally sick, but might be demon possessed. This curse has come upon them because of their own family members or some relatives. Few days back I watched a Christian program. In this program a girl comes with demon possession. Later preacher casts out that demon. Do you know what caused this girl to be demon possessed? The grandmother of that girl used to do witchcraft. Yes my friend many are suffering today because of their own families’ sin. Let me give you another shocking news. When I was in India there was a south Indian woman who was saved and spirit filled but still very much involved in witchcraft. Could you imagine something like that? This woman was doing witchcraft and one day God revealed this to my mom through a vision. It was the year 1989 we invited one renowned preacher by name Bro. T. Selvaraj (late) to preach in our city. One evening this woman invited him for dinner at her house. As he was staying at our home and it was our responsibility to protect him, so we told him that she is practicing witchcraft. He got angry he said, “she might not be anointed by Holy Spirit but rather might be demon possessed to do such filthy things.” He did not believe what we said, he replied to us saying “I have already agreed to go for dinner so I’ll be going tomorrow.” We said, “ok, please pray and whatever you feel, as God leads you do.” Next day morning he said, “I am not going to that woman’s house for dinner. I’ll just go and pray for the sick child and leave that home. Even I am not going to sit there, you are absolutely right.” Yes, gift of Discernment is very precious. This gift shows us the real situation. You could know who is doing witchcraft, who is demon possessed, who is from the side of Satan. Do you want this gift? Pray for it and ask to God and you will receive it. It is such a marvelous gift. Get filled with the Holy Spirit. When Holy Spirit will come to dwell inside of you, He will bring many gifts with Him. He has 9 marvelous gifts with Him to satisfy you. Let’s pray: Lord Jesus I bring these people at your throne of grace. Please touch each and every life who is reading this message. Whoever is seeking for this precious gift Lord please give them this gift. Your word says, “ask and it shall be given to you.” We believe and ask for this precious gift. Forgive and forget all of their sins and fill them with your Holy Spirit. Anoint each one of them Lord right now. Lord I praise you for listening to this prayer. Amen Now I am going to pray for those who are in bondage of demons and evil spirits. Lord Jesus touch each and every one who is involved in this type of things. Deliver them in the name of Jesus. Be delivered in the name of Jesus. You satan take off you nasty hand from these lives and loose them in the name of Jesus. Be delivered right now. Be delivered right now. Satan you cannot have these people, you cannot hold them back. Loose them in the name of Jesus. I command you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth leave these people. Get out of their lives in the name of Jesus. You cannot stay there. I curse you in the name of Jesus. Believe in Lord Jesus Christ and receive your deliverance. Lord Jesus Christ is delivering you. You cancer leave them in the name of Jesus. Somebody got cancer because of witchcraft receive your healing in the name of Jesus. Cancer is leaving you. Be healed in the name of Jesus. Let all the cancer cells die in the name of Jesus. Receive your healing right now in the name of Jesus. Mental problems due to withcraft are healing today. Receive your healing in the name of Jesus. Be whole in the name of Jesus. I break all the witchcraft power from your life this day. In the name of Jesus be delivered. Take your healing in the name of Jesus. Lord I praise you for touching these lives. I praise you. I give you all the glory. I give all the honor. All majesty and glory belong to you alone Jesus. Amen.
Till this time you have read that, Gulshan Fatima was paralyzed at her left side when she was only 6 months old. Her mother died when she was an infant. Her father loved her so much that he took her to England for treatment but when they heard the disappointing words of doctor, "it has no cure", their hearts broke down. Her father encouraged her and said, "We will go to Mecca and knock the door of Allah, and he will heal you." So they went to Mecca and visited Ka'aba - the house of Allah. Even she kissed the cubical shape of ka'aba but to their utter despair nothing happened. To avoid her father's troubled look, she kept her face down. Then they visited Safa and Marva from where they bought Zamzam water. She bathed with that water but nothing happened. She and her father returned home heart broken.******When she was four years old, her eldest sister Anis Bibi got married. At the time of her marriage she was 14 years old. According to their custom, all the women stayed with her in a separate room and men in other room. The bridegroom did not see her face before marriage as their custom. Everyone loved Anis Bibi who had same resemblance as her dead mother. Many well-known and top-level people came to her wedding. When time came for her to go to her husband's house, she came to Gulshan. Gulshan clung on her and sobbed. She said, "I will come and visit you very often." And she visited very often for sometime until she settled down completely. Second brother Safdar Shah's wedding took place in bride's home where she did not go, as women do not attend marriage. Next day they brought Safdar Shah's wife Zenib home. She lived in their home until Safdar finished his business studies in America. She used to go in Gulshan's room and spent time with her or in garden. She loved to sit among roses, sweet pea, mango and orange trees. Soon after that her sister Samina got married and went to her husband's house at Rawalpindi. Then her brother Alim Shah who was just passed his Law degree, got married and went to Samanabad to live there with his new bride. But as Gulshan was not in a position to marry they released her cousin from the engagement who later married a beautiful girl.One by one everyone left home leaving Gulshan and her father alone at their home. It was the most precious time in her life as she experienced close company of her father more than ever before. After partition of India and Pakistan, her Uncle and Aunt came to live with them in 1950. That was the time when many lost their homes and many their family members. Gulshan's father advertised in papers to help Sayed family. So this couple came from Karachi and became a part of their family. "Uncle" became an honorary brother of her father. Father established a small business for him and Aunt helped in household works and took care of Gulshan. They were nice and polite people. They had two children, one son aged 12 and 8 years old daughter. There were many servants and four gardeners in her bungalow to do their respective duties. She also had a teacher named Razia who used to come home to teach Islamic Religious Knowledge, Urdu, history of India and Pakistan, Maths, Persian, basic science. She took Advanced Urdu in place of English. Razia was tall and beautiful woman, she did a great job putting an interest in her heart for the world around her. Gulshan used to listen to radio news, religious programs and watch TV which her father bought after coming from Mecca to ease her pain and disappointment. One day Razia told her, "You are now ready for the examination." She got excited to hear this but she could not realize that she will miss her lessons soon. She passed her matric exams. Then there was no work for her to do so she sat all day alone. Razia had other students to look after and so her visits became less frequent for Gulshan. However father used to go and visit her every evening and read newpaper for her and to tell her about business news and what was going on around the town. Very often they went on trips to visit places.She feels sorry when she remembers what happened next. On December 1968 her father became ill. There was heavy rain and cold whether. Her father spent much time outside in his estate and he came back socked and chilled. When he came back he had fever. Next day he went to work in his office with gray face and sweating. Again he came back home after finishing his work. He was worst that night and had a grating sound in his breathing. Doctor came and gave him medicine and Mulla came and prayed for him. Fever went down and the driver Majid took him to work next morning. He collapsed in the office and had problem breathing. Majid brought him back home. Close family members gathered around him and tried to encourage him to fight with the sickness which was diagnosed as Phnumonia. They all asked him to go to hospital but he insisted to be at home. In this condition he stayed at home and tried to work from home. Two or three more days he struggled then the worst they feared took place. His condition worstened and he was losing his battle but they had no power to save him. He started giving instructions and handed over the deeds to Safdar Shah.Even in his extream condition he thought of Gulshan. He looked at her and said, "I have left much property in your name, even if you hire 100 servants still you will not need to beg to anybody or being a burden to anybody." He also gave instruction to look after Uncle and Aunt. They all looked at each other in fear and horror. He was losing his grip on life. Gulshan was on his side at her wheel chair. She leaned over him and wept saying, "Father, do not leave us, we need you, if you go I will follow you." Her father opened his eyes and put his weak head on her head and said, "It is hard for you but do not ever think of suicide. If you commit suicide, you will be in hell. Remember you are from Sayed family which is the family of Mohammed. Live a righteous life and you will go to paradise and we will all be there together with your mother. Then he raised himself a bit and held her hand tightly and said, "One day God will heal you Gulshan, pray to him." Then he fell back in his pillow. He was breathing very heavily and his eyes closed slowly. Gulshan was weeping bitterly and said, "If you leave, how I will ever have faith, father?" She saw her brother Safdar Shah who was a hard businessman broke down and cried saying, "Don't leave us father, we need you, you are our father and mother." Father opened his eyes and it seemed, he was making a great effort to stay with them. He took vow from all of his children that they should take care of their sister Gulshan. They all promised him the same. Then he drank some water then he said some verses of Quran Ya Sin.. "In which we joined.." and closed his eyes forever. Next several hours he was breathing heavily then he died at 8 am on 28th Dec. 1968.Molvi read Quranic verses from Ya Sin, "And when the Trumpet sounds, they shall rise up from their graves and rush forth to their Lord. 'Woe to us!' they will say. 'Who has roused us from our resting place? This is what the Lord of Mercy promised: the apostles have preached the truth!' And with one shout they shall be gathered all before us.""On that day no soul shall suffer the least injustice. You shall be rewarded according only to your deeds.""On that day the dwellers of Paradise shall think of nothing but their bliss. Together with their wives, they shall recline in shady groves upon soft couches. They shall have fruits and all that they desire..." They read these sura's believing that it will ease the physical death. Samina her sister kissed his face then all of them did the same thing. In the next few hours father's body was taken by males of the family and neighbors. They bathed him and dressed him in a special white dress which he brought from Mecca. They put him in a box for final journey. The box had prayers and Quran verses on it. This box was left open for women of the family to go and pay their respect. Father was a prominent and well known person in the community. So more than thousand people attended his funeral with family members. He was buried beside his wife who lay buried. Gulshan was frozen by grief because of the terrible tragedy which took place in her life. Aunt and maids tried to ease her pain by massaging her head and tried to make her happy. She woke up in the morning three o'clock and heard the noises coming from outside of her room, it was the preparation of next day. They experinced the great loss and a great tragedy but world has to go on. Her life has to go on...To be continued....
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
