Matthew 10:16, "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”

Last week we saw that God has sent His people among the wolves, not to behave like wolves or serpents to harm others. But while being innocent and harmless, still to take actions wisely. This verse or any of the Bible verses does not suggest to cheat, dupe or harm others.

When Jacob ran for his life and took shelter in the house of Laban who was the father of Rachel, Laban tried to cheat him in all things for his own profit or for his own gain. After one-month stay in the house of Laban, Laban told him, “though you are my relative, you need not serve me for free? Tell me what would be your wages?” And Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter." When seven years had passed and when time came for Jacob to get Rachel in marriage, Laban deceived him and gave Leah (Laban’s elder daughter) as his wife. You can imagine what type of a father Laban was, who even had no consideration of his own daughter’s happiness or her good future. It is one of the most tragic stories recorded in the Bible. Then Jacob worked seven more years for Rachel.

Many years later Jacob said to Laban that he wants to return to his home. But Laban cunningly denied his request. Every time Laban deceived him and changed his wages for his own benefit and for his own gain. Rachel and Leah said about their father, “Are we not considered strangers by him? For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money.” We also read that because God was with Jacob, both he and Laban prospered. But Laban’s deception did not end. So God told Jacob to leave that place and go to his home and to his family. So Jacob fled from the house of Laban with all his possessions and with his wives and children. Laban was told about this incident and he pursued Jacob and overtook him. Laban came intending to harm Jacob, but how cunningly he speaks in Genesis 31:26-29, “And Laban said to Jacob: "What have you done, that you have stolen away unknown to me, and carried away my daughters like captives taken with the sword? Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me, and not tell me; for I might have sent you away with joy and songs, with timbrel and harp? And you did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters. Now you have done foolishly in so doing. It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.'”

Laban was a man who was always playing games with his daughters, his son-in-law and others. He was not even afraid to harm his own children. But Jacob survived because God was with him who sustained him. Bible tells us about Pharisees and Sadducees that they were always playing games with people. They wanted honor and respect from others, good seats in synagogues. So they showed themselves as big religious leaders, but in reality they were something different. They always opposed the true message of the Bible. If anybody tried to tell them that they were not correct they suppressed them and endangered their lives. They rejected the almighty God the creator of heaven and earth - Jesus Christ and finally nailed Him on the cross. Why? Because the message of Jesus Christ made their position unstable. Their hypocrisy was exposed and their very own existence was in danger. They thought that by killing Jesus they could win. But to their utter despair Jesus rose from the dead.

Are not many people even those who call themselves as Christians, like that today? For their own profit, or for their own gain, they dupe, they deceive and they harm innocent people. They reject the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, and at the same time they are ready to accept wrong doctrines. But no one can prevail fighting against God. No one can cheat God. There is only one way to escape punishment to repent and to turn to God and then God’s blessings will follow. There is only one way to be right with God i.e. to be washed with the blood of the Lamb who died for us and took all our sins on the cruel cross. And live as the Holy Lamb lived in this world – a holy life, an innocent life, a blameless life. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 7:9-11, "Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face. Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.”

Test every Spirit

By Sheela Isaac

1 John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

The above verse speaks about testing the spirits. Today we find everywhere people speaking, not to judge anybody. They say, “Do not judge anybody, because nobody is perfect.” At the same time you’ll find them judging others. But what the Bible speaks about it? Bible says, “Test every spirit, whether they are of God.”

It is the duty of each and every believer to test and see what is correct, and what is right according to Bible. Bible and Jesus should be our template. We need not to follow any human being. If you follow anybody other than Jesus you will surely fall. If you look at the sinful human being for guidance and try to copy them it is sure that you’ll fall. Instead of it, look towards Jesus who is the most holy God, who is roll model for us. If you follow Him you will never fall. If you obey His commandments, if you follow His footsteps, you will never be ashamed. You need to follow Bible, not the words of human beings. Test all the spoken words of people whether it lines up with Bible or not.

1 Th 5:21, Test all things; hold fast what is good. 1 Th 5:22, Abstain from every form of evil. Again the above said verses speak about holiness. It says, “Abstain from every form of evil.” That means hold fast to what is good. Do the things, which are good and just in the sight of God. Holiness, that’s what God desires from everybody. Bible says, “Without holiness no one will ever see God.”

God has kept us in this world. It is the preparation ground. This is the place where we prepare ourselves for the eternal home. It depends on each and every person, how a person is getting ready. We see that for the army does intensive preparation for battle so that at the time of battle they may not lose. In the same way we are here to prepare ourselves for the eternal home. Bible says that there is only two places where soul goes. It is either Heaven or Hell. What you do today will determine your future. How much do we prepare ourselves for worldly exams and for many other tasks? But the question is, are we preparing ourselves for the final battle i.e. battle of life and death. This preparation will determine whether you are eligible for the place called heaven or not. The way you live in this life will determine whether you are eligible for the place called heaven where most holy God dwells.

Islam says, that nobody could ever know their final destiny till they stand in the judgment day. They believe that it depends on Allah to decide whether a person will enter in heaven or in hell. Hinduism speaks about good works. They say, (Karm kiye ja phal ki icha mat rakh) keep on doing good works don’t expect for reward, one day god will give you reward.

But contrary to it Bible says that through good works you cannot achieve heaven, because our works are like filthy rags in the sight of the most holy God.
Isa 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

Bible says that we can achieve heaven only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We can be saved only through the precious and holy blood of Jesus Christ. According to Bible, salvation is by grace not by our works, because nobody can ever do good works to please God. The works, which look good in our sight, God sees it as filthy and dirty rags. So how can you please God? Can you please God who made Sun, moon and stars by lighting a little candle? Can you please God who owns all the gold, silver and diamonds of this world, by giving Him some $$? No it is not possible. He owns the whole universe, then what can you give to Him so that He would be pleased with you? Nothing!!!

Now according to Quran, “you could never know whether you are going to heaven or not.” But according to Bible we could know if we have a place in heaven or not. Yes you can have this assurance whether you have a place in heaven or not. Jesus came to give us this assurance. He died on the Cross so that we can receive eternal life. He came to save which was lost. Mat 18:11,"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." Because of the precious blood of Jesus you can receive forgiveness of your sins. You can prepare for the eternal battle, which will decide each and every ones fate. If you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior you will have eternal life. If you accept Jesus into your heart you will be able to go with Jesus for the marriage supper. Rev 19:9, “Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'

Are you ready for it? Do you know for sure that you have a place in heaven? This life is just a preparation time. We are not going to live here forever. This place is not an eternal home for us. The time will come when we all have to leave, some for eternal life and eternal joy and some for eternal damnation and shame. To which group do you want to belong? With the blessed people who will live and reign with Jesus for eternity or to live with Satan who is deceiver and destroyer? You have to decide. And you have to decide this in this life itself.

Now what are the steps to reach heaven?
1.Salvation:
Heb 10:19, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,”
1 John 1:7 ….and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If you want to enter in the Holiest place, again it needs cleansing of sins. And this cleansing is only possible by the blood of Jesus. There is no other way. Let no one fool you. There is no other way to reach heaven. When we receive Jesus in our heart as Lord and Savior He comes inside of us to live with us. He cleanses our life from all unrighteousness and sin. Salvation brings holiness in our lives. The day you receive Salvation, the same day cleansing process begins in your life. This experience is called ‘Born Again’ or ‘New Birth’ (John 3:3).

New Birth not only cleanses your past sins, but it enables you to begin a new chapter in your life. Salvation brings holiness and a longing desire to lead a holy life. It is the first basic step to receive a place in heaven. If you are not saved till today you need this experience. Without it you cannot reach heaven.

2. Holiness:
Now the Second step is holiness. It does not come automatically, but needs effort and willingness. After salvation or born again experience, you do not become holy overnight. But holiness is a process. It should be applied in day today life. Again if you want to live with the most holy God in the holiest place you need to prepare yourself daily with holiness. As I said earlier, a soldier prepares himself/herself for the coming battle. This preparation does not complete in one or two days but it takes months and years. Without practice if you send a soldier in the battlefield you know what will happen. In the same way, we are in a spiritual battle. Our enemy is Satan himself. If you want to win this battle, imagine how much practice you’ll need. How much holiness you’ll need to win this battle? That’s why Jesus said:

Mat 26:41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
1 Pet 5:8-9,“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,….”

Holiness is very much necessary to reach heaven. Today it is a less spoken topic, and it does not appear to be of much importance. You rarely hear it from pulpit. But it is the key to reach heaven. Read Bible and you’ll find that the people, prophets; priests, these who lived a holy life could reach heaven. People who did great and mighty things, they were all holy. Prophets who did mighty miracles had close walk with God. Holiness and obedience in God’s command made them to rise up to higher levels. No one ever reached the higher levels in Bible by living filthy and sinful life. I find none.

Moses had a close walk with God. He talked to God as a friend speaks to another friend. He led 600,000 people to liberty from Egypt. Abraham was a friend of God. God spoke to him several times. Reason was that he had a close walk with God. He was called the father of nation. Israel came to existence because of Abraham’s righteousness. Moses, Abraham and many others reached the higher levels in spiritual field. Reason was that they all walked in holiness. Whatever God said they did it at any cost.

Yes my friend, we need holiness. To rise up in higher levels in ministry, to rise up in spiritual status, and finally to reach heaven we need holy and blameless life.
May God bless you.

Messiah – The King II

By Sherly Isaac

Psalms 24:7-10, “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.

Bible speaks about God as King of glory and in the New Testament the Messiah was called Lord of glory as we read in James 2:1, “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.” And also in 1 Cor 2:8, “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

All the glory, honor and majesty belong to God and no one can share His glory. Bible says in Isaiah 48:11, “My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.”

Psalms 45 says about God that He is King and that His kingdom is everlasting. We read in Psalms 45:6, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.” God came in this world as Messiah and died for us but the second time when He comes, He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords His kingdom will not end. He will rule forever and ever.

Some of the qualities of a King is to always want to deliver people from evil, from enemy and danger. Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah in Isaiah 61:1-7, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast. Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.”

That was the aim and mission of Jesus. He came in this world to preach the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, to bring deliverance to the captives and to those who are in bondage of sin and addictions. He came to comfort those who are mourning without any consolation. He came in this world to fill your heart with joy and to remove the heaviness of your heart.

Elizabeth Smart and her family had a very emotional reunion last week. She was kidnapped almost nine months back. A street man who had not even a home to live kidnapped the multimillionaire’s daughter. Her abductor made her to wear a veil so that her face could not be seen. Police caught her and her abductor. But she was so frightened that when police removed her veil and asked her if she was Elizabeth Smart. She said, “no”. Police again asked showing her own pictures but still she refused. Police officer said, it was clearly visible that she is the exact match of that photo but still she refused it. Meanwhile her father got a call from police saying, “come quickly without stopping anywhere”. He told, “When he walked inside a room, he saw his daughter and he could not believe that she was still alive.” He asked, “Is that you Elizabeth?” And she said, “Yes it is”. Further his father said, “I put my arms around her and we cried and cried.” Her mother was very much excited and told, “I am the luckiest mother in the whole world.” Elizabeth was in a position that she could not escape from her abductor as two people were always around her. But when her parents found her, how much joy it gave to them. They were overjoyed.

Today we human beings are bound by the chain of sin. We have been abducted by devil from our heavenly Father’s home. Every day the king is waiting for us that one day we will return to Him and recognize that He wants to make us His sons and daughters. He wants to put His arms around us and wants to deliver us from all evil. He wants to console and comfort our hearts and wants to wipe away all our tears. He wants to fill our hearts with everlasting joy. That is the reason why He came in this world to find the lost humanity. We are lost in our sins and we cannot come out of our sins without the help of God. If you look to Him, He will receive you in His home and make you King of kings sons and daughters. What a privilege to be called His sons and daughters.
