After three months of devastating tsunami disaster, once again Indonesia was hit with another earthquake and this time thousand people were dead. People were in great fear and they were running to higher ground. They were so afraid and puzzled that they could not understand where to go, what to do in this situation. We are living in a world where there is nothing permanent. This world could not promise whether your next moment of life would be happy. Tomorrow is not promised for you. Moreover we are living in an age when Bible tells us that perilous times will come as we read in 2 Tim 3:1, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come."

In the past two weeks when I watched Terri Schiavo whose feeding tube was removed by court order and several appeals to re-attach the feeding tube were denied in courts by judges, I thought, "how anybody could ever allow a living person to die like this?" Though the president of USA, Bush stepped in to intervene, yet the Judges did not change their mind. It stirred many Americans to leave their living will before something like that happens to them so that other people may make decisions according to their wish.

In this world when we see these types of strange and inhuman things, it really breaks our hearts. Bible tells us in 2 Tim 3:1-5, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"

But those who walk in the ways of God will see goodness and blessings of God. Psa 91:3-7, "Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you."

Are you afraid of uncertainty, death, sicknesses or other problems? Do not lose your heart because Jesus defeated all these things on the cruel cross. He went through fear, emotional pain, mental agony, physical sufferings and even death but death could not defeat Him. Mental and physical torture could not overcome Him but He came out of the grave victoriously. He spoke in John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Jesus also said in John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me." Today, give your sins, fear, sicknesses, problems, fear of death and torment to Jesus Christ, He will take it from you and will give you peace that passes all understanding. Jesus said in Mat 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Where would you find a Savior like Him. Come and give your life in the mighty hands of Jesus.

Bible v/s Theologians – who is correct?

By Sheela Isaac

Daniel 12:2, “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

The above verse clearly states that all are not going to heaven. Some are going to receive everlasting life but some everlasting contempt and shame. Let’s see what the theologians teach and why is it so contrary to Bible teachings.

Theologian’s teaching:
Jesus died two thousand years back and paid the full price for us that’s why we are saved today. Or Jesus did the work of redemption on the cross that’s why we are children of God. Or Jesus did everything for us that’s why we have eternal hope i.e., eternal life.

They never speak about repentance or the need of repentance to get saved.

If the above said theologian’s teaching is correct and if everybody is saved, then why Bible speaks about hell, heaven, sin, repentance etc.? Why Daniel 12:2 and many other verses of Bible state that all are not going to heaven but only some? Here is a rough idea about how many times the words ‘HELL’, ‘HEAVEN’ etc. occur in the Holy Bible. Sheol – 65, Hell – 32, Everlasting life- 13, Eternal life – 32, Heaven – 532, Repentance – 34, Repent – 34, Kingdom of God – 70, Lake of fire – 4, Sin – 446. If everybody is going to heaven according to the theologians and Bible teachers then why Bible gives such an emphasis to SIN – 446 times, Heaven – 532 times. If everybody is going to heaven then there must be no talk about sin, hell, lake of fire ect. If everybody is going to heaven according to theologians and Bible teachers then why Jesus and John spoke about Repentance in Math 3:2, 4:17, Mark 1:15, “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Math 4:17, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” If we do not need repentance then these verses should not be in the Bible because after crucifixion it should not be applicable for us since the work on the cross is already finished. If everybody is saved then why Jesus said to His disciples in, Math 28:19-20, ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:……” If everybody is supposed to go to heaven, then Jesus should have known it and He should have said to His disciples, “look I am going to pay the price on the cross within a few days from now and after this everybody (all the nations) are going to enter into heaven. So you need not to do anything? You need not to preach the Gospel hear after. Right? But Jesus did not say it. Instead He said to His disciples, “Go and teach all the nations and teaching them to observe all things which I’ve commanded you.” It also clarifies without any doubt that all are not going to heaven but those who believe in Jesus Christ and those who have turned around are going to get a place in heaven. That’ s why Jesus said in John 3:3, “unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:7, “do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born again.”

If Jesus is correct then theologians must be dead wrong. Both cannot be correct. Either Bible is correct or today’s theologians. Nowhere does Bible teach that all are going to heaven. But unfortunately we often hear the same messages again and again that we are all God’s children, we are privileged people because we are born in a christian home. We all have hope because Jesus paid the full price on the cross. Yes we’ve hope but when? When we repent and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then only we’ve hope, otherwise not. Don’t get fooled by wrong teachings and wrong doctrines. If everybody is saved in church if everybody is going to heaven, then why church has more corruption than any other institution? Why don’t we see holiness in church. Why deeds of church goers are dead wrong? Why do we not see any kind of transformation in the lives of church people. Couple of days back we watched news about church shooting in TV which took 7 lives. Why these people are not getting transformed if everybody are God’s children? It raises many serious questions? Does it not?

Second question is, if the work of redemption is already completed two thousand years back and if we do not need to do anything from our side, then why do we need churches and pastors. Why waste money on these things since all are saved and everybody is already going to heaven. Why do we need Bible teachings anymore since we are all God’s children? Don’t you think that you are wasting your valuable money on church and pastors because you don’t need any further teachings?

Theologian’s another teaching:
Children who are born in a Christian home are already God’s children because of their christian parents and because of covenant relationship.

Bible does not teach anywhere that if your parents are saved then due to covenant relationship you are automatically entitled for heaven or that you are a child of God. According to the above doctrine when parents themselves are not saved how can it be possible that both (parents and children) are going to heaven? I do not see any verses which gives such an idea. Instead Bible speaks about individual salvation. John 3:16 says, “that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It clearly states that whosoever believes and that particular person only will get saved not the whole family. Again in John 1:12 it says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,” This verse also clearly says that ‘as many as received Him’ to them He gave the power to become children of God not to the whole family. John 3:3 also does not prove the doctrine of covenant relationship.

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
John 3:3, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Hence it is clear that Salvation is an individual experience. It means that when you eat your food, you alone will get nourished not your parents, spouse or children. The same thing is applicable with salvation. If you repent from your sin, your soul will be saved from sin and hell fire not your parent’s or spouse’s or children’s. Again we find in Old Testament that Isaac was a righteous man in the sight of God but it did not help Esau his son to get a place in heaven. God loved Isaac and Jacob his other son but God hated Esau. The below verses clearly says that according to the Bible there are no covenant relationships between father and children which could lead them to salvation or which could give them a place in heaven. But salvation comes by personal repentance and personal forgiveness of sin.

Malachi 1:2-3, “…Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, (verse 3) And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
Rom 9:13, “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”

What the theologians teach does not comply with the Bible teaching and they follow their own doctrines and many of such doctrines are totally contrary to Bible and totally wrong. If you follow those teachings instead of Bible you may end up in grave danger and you may lose heaven. If theologians believe that all who were born in a christian home are going to heaven and that salvation is only needed for others (non christians) then also they are dead wrong. Because Jesus did not die for only one sect or community of people. Jesus is not a God of partiality. Jesus died for the whole mankind and if non christians need salvation then christians (who are born in a christian home) also need salvation. God’s rule is same for everybody.

You and I all need salvation (repentance of sin) to reach heaven. If you are still without salvation then you need to think seriously about your life and you need to repent from your sins. Life is too short and time may run out before you decide anything. You must understand that Salvation is not an emotional experience. But it transforms life inside out for ever. I am the living witness for it. Almost twenty three years back on 3rd Nov. 1981 I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and since then my life has never been the same again. My life changed forever. It was not an emotional experience. The joy of salvation which I experienced that day is still bubbling in my life. The transformation which I saw 23 years back is still with me. I’ve not gone back from that day. The things which I quit on that day has never returned in my life. Salvation not only brings holiness, joy unspeakable but also hope for eternal life. What else you want in this life? Nothing can be compared with the precious experience of salvation. Bible says that Salvation is that gem which when a person found it, he sold everything, every precious thing to buy that gem. Yes get saved and live care free life. You never know when death will knock at your door but if you are a saved person you’ll be ready to face death and eternity without any fear.

The Murderer in the Temple

By Sherly Isaac

The Book of Acts in the Bible gives detailed look of what happened after Jesus' death and resurrection. The first century church was thriving and growing in a big way. But there were people in the House of God who did not like it. They were determined to stop the revival at any cost.

There was a young man name Saul who was very zealous in his duties as Pharisee and for his religion. When Stephen was stoned to death he consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and the believers were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.(Acts 8:1&3)"

Bible further tells us about Saul in Acts 9:1-2 that, "he was still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem." Ananias a man of God says about Saul, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name."

Saul was a man who destroyed those who took the name of Jesus Christ. A man who persecuted those who followed Christ. He himself says in Acts 22:4-5, "I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women, as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the council of the elders, from whom I also received letters to the brethren, and went to Damascus to bring in chains even those who were there to Jerusalem to be punished."

After all, who was this man named Saul who had this much animosity about Jesus and His followers? Of course Saul was no ordinary man. He was not only a Pharisee but also the son of a Pharisee. He says in Acts 26:6, "...that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee." He says about himself in Acts 22:3, "I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers' law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today."

To understand "Pharisee" word I looked for the meaning in dictionary and it says like this:
1. Pharisee A member of an ancient Jewish sect that emphasized strict interpretation and observance of the Mosaic law in both its oral and written form.
2. A hypocritically self-righteous person.
A member of an ancient Jewish sect noted for strict obedience to Jewish traditions.

Saul was a man who was brought up according to the strict laws of Bible who was strictly obedient to Jewish traditions and mosaic Law given to Moses. Gamaliel was another Pharisee who taught Saul. By this time you could understand that Saul was a religious man, following the Law with caution, he did theologian study and was a scholar. He grew up in the house of God. Not only that he loved his religious duties, he was zealous for God. All these things could not make him a good person. He was full of hatred, full of thoughts of murder and destruction against Christians. He wasn't moving in the right direction. He thought that he was doing the right things when he persecuted the Christians. He thought that he was right when he was killing the Christians. But he was dead wrong in following the God of the Bible. That's what a religion and rituals could do to a person. Religion and rituals cannot change a person nor can forgive their sins. Saul knew the Law of Moses but could not realized that he himself was committing murders and breaking the very law he was following "Strictly".

Saul could not realize his mistake until he met Christ face to face. In the book of Acts Chapter 9 tells us the dramatic conversion of Saul. On the way to Damascus he met Jesus who appeared to him and asked, why he was persecuting Him? That was it, one meeting with Jesus changed his whole life. The same man who was filled with hatred and anger for others was filled with love and compassion. A murderer whose life was turned around just when he met Christ. If we read the Bible, we can understand that Saul who became Paul was persecuted by others but he never tried to harm them or kill them as before.

Today also you can find people including theologians around you who may know the Bible, may be they are strictly following what is written in the Bible but may be full of violence, hatred, animosity, corruption and all kind of wrong things. The reason is very simple, they never met Jesus Christ personally. Jesus spoke to another Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews in John 3:3, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." But Nicodemus had hard time understanding it and he was asking so many questions to Jesus. Then we read in John 3:10 that Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?"

But the Bible says in John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name."

You have to do nothing but accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It will not only transform your life but also give you eternal life. Do you want this wonderful life? If you say yes, please pray this prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally and want to walk in your holy ways. I want to follow you as you want me to be. Please forgive and forget all my sins and cleanse me with your precious blood. Today I invite you as my Lord and Savior. Please come into my life and change me completely. Make me a child of God. I pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.
