Hope for the hopeless, that was the mission on which Jesus came into this world. One time Jesus stood in the temple and read from Isaiah 61st chapter verse 1,"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted To proclaim liberty to the captives And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn To console those who mourn in Zion To give them beauty for ashes The oil of joy for mourning The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness The planting of the LORD that He may be glorified." When He finished the reading, He sat down and He said, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" (Luke 4:21).These verses give us an outline of what Jesus' mission was on this earth. We can summarize it in one sentence that He came to give hope for the hopeless, heal the brokenhearted, deliver the captives, bring good tidings, wipe away the tears of those who mourn and to give comfort to them, solace to the heavy hearted and to fill them with great joy. This was the mission of Jesus. Even today He is ready to do all these things for those who turn to Him.If we look around we can see people who have lost their hope, joy and peace. Their hearts are heavy with the burdens of life and they do not know where to turn. Once I heard a tragic story. There lived a family in south India. They were hard working people who worked in a banana plantation. After the father's death in the family, all the responsibility came upon his son. He worked very hard and with his hard work arranged his sister's wedding and promised to give dowry money with the produce from the banana crop. When just a few weeks were left for her wedding, one night a big storm and heavy rain came and it ruined the banana trees with bananas. This young man hurriedly ran to the farm and when he saw the devastation, he could not bear the pain. All his hopes were gone. Thinking from where he could get money for conducting his sister's wedding, he became desperate and committed suicide.Recently when there was oil spill in the southern parts of America. I heard in the news that many were so much depressed that divorce, suicide and crime rates had gone very high. Why does it happen? Because hopes die down and as people do not see a future for themselves it seems to them that everything is over for them. But I would like to introduce a God who holds your future. If you give your life in the hands of Jesus, you need not to worry about anything. Because God knows what His children need. Jesus said in Mat 6:26-30, "Look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field which today is and tomorrow is thrown into the oven will He not much more clothe you O you of little faith?"Today, you may be in a situation where you do not see any future for you or for your family. Probably all your efforts to come out of your situation may appear to be futile. But if you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ He will give you new hope. Hope for the future! Not only for life in this world but also for eternal life. Come to Him and put your life at the feet of Jesus!
Bible tells us in Deu 28:12-13, "The LORD will open to you His good treasure the heavens to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations but you shall not borrow. And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not be beneath if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you today and are careful to observe them."God promises to give all the blessings and to take us above all if we obey His commandments and walk in His ways. In other words, He will give success after success. Whatever you touch will prosper because God will make it to prosper.Bible talks about Abraham who walked in the ways of God and in return God gave him riches and blessings beyond his imagination. In Genesis 13:2, "Abram was very rich in livestock in silver and in gold." And in Genesis 13:5-6 we read that Lot and Abraham had such possessions that the land could not support them and they could not dwell together. Gen 13:5, "Lot also who went with Abram had flocks and herds and tents. Now the land was not able to support them that they might dwell together for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together."Remember that Abraham was not a native in that land. He was a foreigner and yet he could become such a great man in wealth, name and fame. Later Abraham's son Isaac also became very wealthy. He was in the midst of famine yet he sowed and reaped hundredfold. We read in Gen 26:12-14, "Then Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. The man began to prosper and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him."God made him very prosperous. God does not need a favorable weather or circumstances to bless anybody. In the midst of famine He can prosper anybody. In the midst of scarcity He can prosper anybody. From the last few years we are hearing the news of recession, foreclosure, job loss, unemployment rate hike and poverty. But there is a God who can work in the midst of those situations and raise you up. He can prosper you right where you are. God says in Psa 91:15, "He shall call upon Me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him."If we call upon Him and ask for help, He will surly come for our rescue. I remember that when my dad was in hospital in the year 2005, doctors gave up hope and told us that even if he is put in ventilator still there is no chance of his survival. So they insisted on giving up. It was such a hard time for us that we were swept by sheer hopelessness and in spite of that we were not ready to let him go. The report of the doctors looked grim and hopeless but on the other hand we remembered the promises which God time and time again gave to us. But now in the natural it seemed so impossible that those promises would ever come to pass. Yet we trusted on the words of Jesus and His promises. And I can say that God remained faithful to us and He restored my dad's life. He is still alive and has recovered from his illness.At times I thought that if we were in need of a million dollars still we could have borrowed from somewhere and met our needs but how could someone bring a dying person back to life? There was absolutely no one who could have helped us in that situation but in those moments of despair and hopelessness Jesus came for our rescue.The same God who did this impossible miracle in our lives can do the same for you. If you just trust in Him, if you just walk in His ways and if you just love Him with all your heart, He will turn your situations around and wipe away your tears.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
