Bible talks about the God who cares for us and He is interested in our day today affairs. We read in 1 Peter 5:7, "casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." Once Jacob was fleeing from his place and on the way when he took a break and slept, he saw a dream. In his dream he saw a big ladder set up on the earth, its top reaching to heaven; and he saw angels of God ascending and descending. And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you" (Gen 28:13-15).Then Jacob woke up from his dream and made a vow in Gen 28:20-22, saying, "If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God's house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You."Further we read that throughout his journey, God was with him and wherever he went God prospered him, blessed him, provided for him and years later brought him back to his father's house. The same God is interested to bless our lives and take care of us. A few weeks back my sister brought some live pet shrimps thinking that they would keep her fish tank clean. These tiny shrimps are hardly 1/2" long and you cannot even see all of them because most of the times they would be hiding among water plants. Yet my sister would take so much pain to feed them regularly, clean their tank and take care of them. If something went wrong, she would be very much upset thinking whether her shrimps would get sick and die or her fish in the tank. If we as human beings could think about those small creatures and take care of them as our own, how much more God will do for His children!God said in Isaiah 41:14, "Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you," says the LORD And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."Jesus said in Luke 12:25-28, "And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?"Also we read in Romans 8:32, "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"This awesome God gave Himself for us because He cared for us and because He wanted to see us blessed and happy and more than that He wants us to go to heaven. If you invite Jesus in your life, He is ready to take away all your worries and fill you with His divine peace. And more than that He will give you eternal life.
Last time we saw that the experience when the anointing of Holy Spirit comes is not a silent experience. Throughout the Bible whenever this occurred, there was some kind of outward sign that was present when the people had received the anointing. As I mentioned there are different groups of people who have different views about it. Let's look into it a little deeper.1. One group of people says that Holy Spirit comes when a child is confirmed in a church.Main line/protestant churches believe that at the time of infant baptism the child gets saved and when this teenager takes confirmation or is confirmed in the church he/she receives the anointing of Holy Spirit. Well I went through all these rituals and I can say for sure that it doesn't happen. After going through all these rituals I never received Salvation or Holy Spirit and I was still the same old person. I did whatever my Hindu/Christian friends did. Their life was not holy neither was mine till I found Jesus. Nothing had changed in my life till I showed willingness to receive Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. These rituals did not change my family members either. My parents got saved in their forties. I have seen the same time and again in the mainline protestant communities as well that these rituals do not bring about any change in the lives of people. That's why they continually live in sin. Unless and until Jesus comes in the lives of people their sin never departs.So according to this first view those people who believe on this view and basing on this belief claim that they are saved and spirit filled is not a TRUE transformation. 2. Does 'speaking in tongues' simply mean speaking in a foreign language?Last time we looked little bit about it. According to this theory when you go to another country you learn a new language or you learn a different language in school or from your parents and that represents the 'biblical speaking in tongue'. But can it be true? No,. Biblical 'speaking in tongues' doesn't come with learning but it comes automatically when you get filled with Holy Spirit and at once/instantaneously you begin to speak in an unknown language. So according to this theory this group of people are NOT spirit filled either as they claim.3. The third group thinks that Holy Spirit is given when a person gets saved. I would say, YES and NO.YES, how? You could receive salvation and Holy Spirit at the same time. There are few cases when people have received both of them together. People had repented from their sins and at the same time they were also filled with Holy Spirit and spoke in unknown tongues. NO, why? In most of the cases people receive salvation first and then after a period of time they get filled with Holy Spirit. We find this in Bible also. When Paul asked the people, "have you received anointing when you believed (saved)"? They replied, "we didn't hear about Holy Spirit." The Bible says that Paul laid hands on them and prayed so that they received the anointing. In this case also they received TONGUE as an outward sign and between these two (salvation and receiving of Holy Spirit) incidences there was a certain period of time. Acts 19:2, "he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." Acts 19:6, "And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. So it could be possible that you got saved when you repented from your sin but you are not spirit filled if you have not seen any outward sign or never spoken in the unknown language i.e. Tongues. 4. The forth group believes that Salvation and the anointing of Holy Spirit are two separate incidences.Yes, Salvation and the Anointing of the Holy Spirit are two separate incidences. As I said earlier these two incidences could happen together or one after another at the same time but still they are different experiences. Salvation: Seal of the Holy SpiritWhen you get saved the seal of the Holy Spirit comes on you. It is like when you take bath/shower water goes outside your body but you don't drink it. This seal enables you to have your name written in the Lamb's book of Life and it gives you guarantee of having a place in heaven. Eph 1:13, "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,Eph 1:14, "who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.Anointing: Fullness of Holy SpiritAt the time when you receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit, Holy Sprit comes inside of you to live inside of you. This experience is different from what you had at the time of salvation. a). Salvation: Seal of the Holy Spirit i.e. Holy Spirit stays "WITH YOU"b). Anointing of the Holy Spirit: Comes inside you and lives in you i.e. Holy Spirit will be "IN YOU"When you get saved, Holy Spirit stays "WITH YOU" because you received the seal of the Holy Spirit and when you get filled with the Holy Spirit He (Father, Son and Holy spirit) comes inside of you (John 14:23). That's what John 14:17 says that He will be "IN YOU". John 14:16, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever;John 14:17, "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.John 14:23, "Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."3. Prophecy as an outward sign:Acts 2:17 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.This verse clears it very well that when God pours out His spirit on a person he/she could receive prophecies. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecies. So when a person gets filled with Holy Spirit one of the sign that could occur is Prophecy. It is Holy Spirit's nature and when this most powerful and majestic God comes down to live inside of us He doesn't keep quiet but He does speak and testify about Jesus. John 15:26, "But when the Helper (Holy Spirit) comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.The Bible says that the spirit of truth will guide you in all truth and He is going to tell you what is coming in the future.John 16:13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.John 16:14, "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.Prophecies are another outward sign that you have received the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When the God of Bible speaks to His children He speaks through prophecies. In order to receive such prophecies it is not necessary that you must be a prophet. It is God's nature to speak to His children and He speaks to them in various ways and prophecy is one of them. Throughout the Bible we find God speaking to His people. We find that when Paul laid hands on people and when they were filled with Holy Spirit they not only spoke in "Tongues" but also did "Prophecy".Acts 19:6, "And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.We'll see it in detail next time.
