And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. (Mat 1:21)

In the Old Testament, God promised to send a Savior like Moses who would deliver His people. Moses was born at the time when the Israelites were going through much agony, pain and hardship because of the oppression they had to face in Egypt. Their hearts were crying out for deliverance. There was official rule to kill every male child of a Hebrew as soon as he was born. Not only that, the Egyptians made the Hebrews to work hard as slaves and ruled over them with an iron fist. It happened that their cry reached God and God sent Moses to deliver His people from their bondage.

When Moses was born, because his life was in danger, his mother protected him by keeping him hidden for three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river's bank. And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children.(Exodus 2:3-6)" Further we read that Pharaoh's daughter took him and raised him as her own son. Later on he ran away from Egypt to Midian. One day when he was tending his sheep, God appeared to him in a flame of fire in the midst of a bush. God spoke to him and told him to go and deliver the Israelites from Egypt.
Despite all the odds against him and all the increased hardships from the Egyptians, Moses was able to deliver the Israelites and to bring them out.

Many thousands of years later, God sent His only Son to deliver the people from their sins. Jesus was born at the time when King Herod ordered to kill all the infant male children of age two and under. We read in Mat 2:16, Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men."

Jesus survived because God showed Joseph in his dream to flee to Egypt. Later Jesus' family moved to Israel. Though Jesus showed the power of God among the people, though He did so many good works like healing the sick, opening the eyes of the blind, making the mute to speak and the deaf to hear and raising the dead to life, He was rejected by all.

John 1:10-11, "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him."

Yet He loved us so much that He gave His precious life for us so that we could come out of our sins and have eternal life. John 1:12 says, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:"

Today, we can have eternal life. Today, we can come out of our sins. Today, we can get forgiveness of our sins because Jesus came in this world, born in a manger, lived among us and later died on our behalf taking all our sins on the cruel cross. It is possible that you might have been born in a Christian home; still you might not have known Jesus personally. It is also possible that you could have been attending Church regularly from your childhood, but still you might not have invited Jesus to come into your life. But if you invite Him in your life, He is ready to come into your life and wash you from all your sins.

Hope for the Hopeless - Part 13

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in Hosea 2:15, "I will give her her vineyards from there, And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt."

What is the valley of Achor? In Joshua 7th chapter we see a person called Achan who sinned before God and because of his sin the Israelites faced defeat, shame and even had to face danger to their lives. This was the place where Achan was stoned to death, the place where Achan's grave was, the place of sigh, the place of darkness and shame. The valley of Achor was the place where the Israelites saw defeat and death because of Achan's sin. They lost all their hopes because they faced a great problem there. Many mighty men died in battle. But God says, "I will make the Valley of Achor as a door of hope." The same place where they saw defeat and death, God promised to make it a place of hope and blessing.

Are you going through a time of defeat, shame, hopelessness and loss? Jesus can turn your situation around and turn the same place into a place of hope for you. In the same place where you have seen defeat, shame and hopelessness.

In Isa 65:10 God says, "Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, And the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, For My people who have sought Me."

Not only God promised to make the Valley of Achor a place of hope but also a resting place for those who seek God. There is a God who loves us and wants to turn our situations around. He wants to give us rest and peace. Jesus said in Matt 11:28 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." He is calling those who are burdened with heavy burdens and have no rest or peace in their hearts. For this very purpose Jesus came in this world to take away our sins, loads of sins from us and make us free.

If we come to Him, He is ready to make us free and He is ready to give us new hope and rest.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
