This is the time when people in India celebrate the festival called Dipawali. It is also called the festival of lights. When I was studying in college, next to our college there was a river flowing. When the time of Dipawali comes, they would float small lights (diya) in the river. The whole river would lit up with thousands of small lights. And it looks so beautiful in the dark nights. And these tiny lights would dispel the darkness.Jesus once said in John 9:5, "I am the light of the world." When Jesus was born, Bible tells us in Luke 1:78-79, "Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace."Because of His great mercy God visited this planet earth to give His light. Bible also tells us that our lives are filled with darkness because of sin. And because of sin, each and every person is heading towards death - eternal death. It means that if we do not turn around we are heading towards hell fire or towards utter destruction where people are restless and without hope, where people are in constant torment. That's what sin does to us. Sin would one day drag us to hell fire unless we have turned around from our sins. But there is Good News. Jesus came in this world to dispel the darkness from our lives and to redeem us from the captivity of sin. He gave His precious life for us and died on behalf of us so that we could come out of our sins and live a holy life. He wants to come into our lives and wants to fill our lives with His light. He wants to eradicate all our sins from our lives. When we invite Jesus in our lives, He comes in and gives us a new life. He fills us with His light and helps us to walk in His light. He transforms us into lights as we read in Mat 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."Are you living in sin today? Have you thought about your destiny, where you would be when your life ends, whether in heaven or in hell? If you are not sure about your destination, come to Jesus, repent from your sins and invite Him to come into your life. When He comes, He will make your life to shine like a light.
Luke 6:22-23, "Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets."Jesus had clearly warned that when you love Jesus follow Him, you could also go through the same situations. that people hate you for various reasons:1. Because you are preaching the true Gospel:Why people would hate you if you are preaching the true Gospel? The reason is that Satan hates it and that's why he works through various people to oppose it. Satan knows very well that if the true Gospel becomes popular, more and more people will be turning to God and he would continuously lose people from his fold and that's why he tries to stop the Gospel from spreading. You might have noticed how Satan tries his level best to make you not to hear the correct Gospel. He'll put lots of hindrances in your way so that he could divert you from that. When you read the Bible or pray, he will put you to sleep. If you try to hear the Gospel through television he'll make you to flip channels so that you will watch some other stuff which may be of more interest to you. If you hear a good message, Satan would not hesitate to steal away those words from your heart and will not allow them to bear fruit. Mark 4:14-15, "The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts." If you try to attend a good Gospel meeting he would try to stop you from going there. I am sure you'll find some excuse for that also. I remember the days when we were just beginning our walk with the Lord, trying to grow spiritually by hearing good messages as much as possible. One side there was a great burning desire to hear more about Jesus but on the other side Satan was also active and was not on vacation. A pastor came to our home and started talking about several things. Then he came to know that we were listening to Br. D. G. S. Dhinarakaran's messages. He said, "hey don't listen to that preacher. He is an "Anti Christ". I still remember how upset I was when I heard that. I began to think, "don't know if we are on a wrong path". I was so afraid and so scared and didn't know what to think. That's what Satan does, if you are not grounded in the word of God (the Bible) or if you are a new believer people could easily distract you from the right path. That's why we need to read the word of God ourselves to figure out what the Bible has to say. You could be easily mislead if you hear somebody's interpretation of the verses from Bible unless you yourself do not read and know what is in the Bible. When you are constantly in touch with the word of God and you yourself read and understand what is in it on a regular basis, it will help you to be aware when you hear a wrong message. As soon as a preacher interprets the Bible in a wrong way, suddenly the words you have already read and which is in your heart and mind jumps up and you know right away that the preacher is wrong and your mind says, "hey the real meaning of this particular verse is this and not what the preacher said." You will know right away that what you have heard is wrong. So it is so necessary that you must be reading the Bible on a regular basis so that no one could deceive you. It is sad that the man of God Br. Dhinakaran who worked so hard for the Gospel's sake, who took the saving and healing Gospel of Jesus Christ to the multitudes as no one else in India had ever done was being ridiculed and mocked by those who were doing nothing for Jesus. It is a sad reality that those who are doing more work for Jesus are the most hated individuals today being despised by people while those who preach the wrong message who preach against salvation and healing, who do only the money making business are getting praises for their non-scriptural work. Why? Because Satan always hated Jesus and His people. Jesus had already said that if you are of the world, world will love you, but you are not of the world that's why they hate you. John 15:19-21, "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me."2. They will hate you if you tell what is right and what is wrongYou might wonder why somebody would get mad at you if you are doing the right things. I still don't understand why somebody would get upset if you say don't tell lies, don't steal, don't harm others, don't cheat. But it is happening. why? because every person who is born in this world is under the control of Satan and we've inherited sin from our forefathers. I remember that before I got saved I was very fond of Hindi secular movies. One day my dad promised to take us to some movie and we all were very happy and got ready. We were about to step out of our home to go to the movie theater and in the meanwhile somebody from my dad's office came. I still remember I was very upset and thought, "Why this person has to come at this particular time when we were about to leave and enjoy the movie." I remember spending the next hour or so looking at the watch over and over again and cursing that person thinking about how he has ruined our good plans. That's what Satan does, he puts you in wrong things and wrong ways and he would make you feel like that you are doing the right things. When I got saved, then only I realized that God is not pleased with my movie watching activity. When Jesus came into my heart, the first thing He did was to remove secular movies from my life. I stopped watching movies at once and for all. The last secular movie I watched ever was on 1983. If Satan was not behind all the evil today we would not have seen this much sin and corruption in our world. People who drink never think that they are wrong. People who plot and hire people to kill others never realizes that they are wrong. People who give and take bribe never consider that it is wrong. Why? Because Satan is behind everything. Look at the life of Jesus the son of God. He came down in this world to save human beings. The people rebelled against God, did all evil against God, they said to their creator, 'we don't want you', but still God loved us so much. He did not hesitate to send His only son Jesus to die for us so that He could redeem us. But how foolish we are that we love to hear Satan than God our creator. It is Satan who is destroying our lives, it is Satan who is trying to take us to hell fire but still we love to hear him and do what he is trying to put in our minds. How pathetic it is that we forget to realize that Satan is the villain in our lives and that we need to turn to Jesus the true deliverer and rescuer. But how sad it is that we love to live in sin and we are fully satisfied that we are on Devil's side. Jesus did good all the time but Pharisees didn't like Him. They were ready to kill Him. John 10:31 -32, "Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?" It is quite amazing that Jesus always did good, healed the sick and delivered people from their oppression but still the Pharisees and the priests of His time hated Him. I still wonder they were the people who should have appreciated the work of Jesus because He was doing good works but still they hated Him. They hated Him because they were there for money making and for name and fame. They had nothing to do with the welfare of the people. They never thought, "how to live a clean life and go to heaven," They never thought how to save people from hell fire and sin. Their goal was only money, name, fame and a better place in society. That's why they hated Jesus. When they saw miracles and good works from Jesus what they said. John 11:47-48, "Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation." They said, "if we leave him alone Jesus will become more popular and we will lose our place." They were so much after their place in society and after their own status. Don't we see such ministers today? They are after money but not after souls. They are not concerned about people ending up in hell fire due to sin. That's why they never preach about salvation, blood of Jesus and about holy life. Are you a preacher of the Gospel? Are you preaching how to get saved and get a place in heaven? Are you preaching about the great sacrifice of Jesus which saves a sinner? If not, then you are not preaching the core message of the Bible. Are you hearing a messages which does not show you how to get saved and how to live a clean life, then you must know that you are hearing a non-scriptural Gospel. You are hearing the message which Jesus did not command to preach. You need to get concerned about your soul and you need to find the true Gospel which could save you from hell fire. May God help you to find the Christ centered Gospel.
Bible talks about a young man named David. He was just a young man when God chose him to be king of Israel. The day when he was anointed for king, his troubles started. He had this big promise with him from God, but he did not know how His promise will be fulfilled. He was just a shepherd boy who delighted in tending his father's sheep. To become a king was such a faraway dream for him that naturally speaking it was absolutely impossible. But David trusted in God and he knew that he knew in his heart that one day God will fulfill His promise no matter what, no matter how impossible it could look.One day his father asked him to take food for his elder brothers who were in the army. When David reached the place where his brothers were working, he saw Goliath coming and defying the whole army of Israel. David could not see it happening to the army of God. He volunteered to go and kill Goliath. He was not even able to wear the proper dress (armor for protection) when worriers go for battle, but he went to fight Goliath trusting in God. And victory was his. He killed the giant Goliath with just one stone from his sling. Here you can imagine how big the victory was against the giant whom the whole army of Israel was afraid to face, while he was just a boy hardly sixteen years of age, untrained in warfare, who faced Goliath and killed him with just one stone from his sling. "Now it happened as they were coming home, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistines, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments. So the women sang as they danced, and said: "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands." Saul was very angry and displeased hearing this and said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?" (1Samuel 18:6-8)"This was the first signs of trouble for David. Soon after that, David had to run for his life. He went and hid in jangles and caves while the king of Israel and his whole army were searching for him everywhere. For months and years he ran for his life and in that process he lost all his hopes. He had lost his hope even to save his own life. He really thought that one day Saul would kill him. So he moved to Philistine and lived there. "Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David's two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God" (1Sa 30:1-6).This was the condition of David. He was in complete distress and in complete hopeless situation. He lost everything including his wives and children. He lost the trust of his men who spoke of stoning him. The men who were with him all these years, in his tears, in his wanderings, in his troubles and in his distress, who were with him under all those circumstances, now stood against him. In this hopeless and helpless situation, David strengthened himself in the Lord God almighty. And the next verses tell us about the victory they won, defeating the enemy and getting back everything they lost. God restored to them everything even their long lost hopes. Yes, my friend, no matter what your situation is today, just look to Jesus just as David did, when he found favor of God and also everything which he lost. There is victory in Jesus for us. There is mighty, awesome and wonderful things stored for us if we call the mighty and unfailing name of Jesus. He will turn our situations around and make us victorious. He will revive our faded away dreams and hopes for a better future.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it."
