Recently I was watching TV News which showed a woman who was twice caught by police. First time she had murdered her husband and was in prison on life sentence. But she somehow managed to escape from prison. She started her life over again, got married had kids and worked in the community. No one thought that she was an escapee from prison. But years later recently police found her, caught her the second time and put her in prison again.

You can see that though she escaped from prison, changed her identity and started a brand new life and no matter how good she was to her second husband and to their children and to her neighbors, yet when the police caught her, she had to go through punishment because of her crimes.

My friend no matter how good the life we may live, if our sins are not forgiven then there is a great punishment awaiting for all of us. Bible says that the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23). Bible also tells us in Rom 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Yes, it is true that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Yes, it is also true that we deserve punishment for our sins before God almighty. But there is good news, Jesus took our punishment and died on our behalf so that we could get forgiveness He paid the price in full. He shed His precious blood for the very purpose. In John 3:15-19 Jesus Himself said, "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

We also read in John 1:12-13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Today we can get rid of our sins and live a holy life because of the shed blood of Jesus and because Jesus gave His precious life for us.

Some people believe that this is escapism and not the true method for getting salvation. They also believe that we must work hard to earn our salvation. But Bible clearly tells us that by our good works or by any other means we cannot earn salvation of our souls. We need a savior who could save us from our sins. And God alone can forgive our sins. He alone can wash away our sins not our good works or good life but the precious blood of Jesus. If you are not sure about your salvation, repent from your sins and turn to Jesus. He will forgive and forget all your sins.

You are Destined to be Blessed

God made a covenant with Abraham and said in Gen 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

God also promised that Abraham’s descendants would be blessed. But who really are Abraham’s descendants? Once Jesus was preaching and people got angry at His teachings and tried to kill Him. Then Jesus told them that if they were the descendants of Abraham they would have acted like the children of Abraham and not as the children of devil. We read in John 8:37-47, "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father. They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the deeds of your father." Then they said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father; God. Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God."

Jesus made it clear that Abraham’s descendants are those who walk in the ways of God and those who live a pure life. And God’s promise for Abraham’s descendants are, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you.” This was the reason why when Balaam tried to curse the Israelites he could not curse them but instead he blessed them three times. When King Balak heard him blessing the Israelites he got very angry with Balaam that he told him to flee to his place. Instead of getting honor and gifts from the king, Balaam got shame and dishonor.

Yes, no one can curse God’s children. They are blessed and they have protection of God. David was a young boy and very much inexperienced in battle. But when he saw Goliath – one of the descendants of giants defying, cursing and profaning the almighty God, his blood started boiling. He said in 1 Sam 17:26, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" Cutting the long story short. Finally David went to fight against this big giant not even wearing armors to protect himself. When Goliath saw David, he thought what a joke it was?

We read in 1 Sam 17:42-44, “And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!"

Of course David had no chance to survive before the experienced warrior of great stature. But notice how God returned the curses of Goliath exactly back on his own head. Because David trusted in the mighty power of God, because he gave his all to God, God helped him to be victorious in his battle. Further we read how easy the victory was for David over Goliath.

My friend, are you a child of God? No curse can affect your life. It will surely return to the place of its origin. Same type of incident we see in the life of King Hezekiah. King Hezekiah walked in the ways of God and was a righteous man. Sennacherib the king of Assyria came to fight with him. He sent messengers and said like this in 2 Ki 19:10-14, "Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: 'Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. Look! You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered? Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?'"

When Hezekiah received the letter he went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord and cried out to the almighty God. Here are the excerpts of his prayer: 2 Ki 19:15-19, “O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands; wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."

Hezekiah was in great trouble but there is a God who cares for His children and He comes from heaven to help and deliver His children. Hezekiah got a great deliverance by the mighty hand of God who sent an angel and destroyed many mighty men of Sennacherib. But in the case of king Sennacherib, what he spoke and what he boasted, returned to his own head. He returned shamefaced to his house and when he went to worship his god, his own sons killed him. That was the end of a person who tried to destroy a child of God while he and his army were destroyed. None of his god could help him or could deliver him.

Once I heard a true story. One man of God lived in a village. In the same village there lived a witchdoctor. That witchdoctor would do witchcraft every night and send evil spirits in the house of the man of God. One night while the witch doctor was sending evil spirits using his magical powers, a few moments later those evil spirits returned and killed the cattle of the witch doctor. Those evil spirits were screaming and saying, "because we could not enter into the house of the man of God, we have returned and we do not have any other place to go."

Are you a child of God? You need not to fear the evil spirits; they cannot come near you and harm you. They cannot enter into your home because you are marked by the blood of Jesus.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
