Exo 32:1 Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him."Moses led the Israelites from Egypt and on the way to the promised land he went up the mountain to receive direction from God. Exo 24:18 says, "...Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights." When people saw that Moses had gone so long and was not returning, they lost all their hopes of Moses' survival. The strange thing was that they thought of replacing God (who brought them out of Egypt with His mighty hands) by an idol which they pressured Aaron to make to act as god to go before them. The same Aaron who saw God on the mountain a few days back gave up his own conviction and idea and made a golden calf for the Israelites to worship because the congregation put pressure on him. Exo 24:9-11, "Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank." What a tragedy it was. But this is what is happening in our churches even today. When pressure comes from the congregation or from heavy weight persons who could influence much, pastors give up and commit sin against God. This is what is happening when world puts pressure on godly people, that even mighty men and women of God give up and dance to the tune of this evil world.But look at the life of Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. These people were pressurized and their faith was put on fire. For Daniel there was no other choice except to be eaten up alive by lions or give up his faith on almighty God. For Daniel's friends there was no other choice except to be barbequed alive or just deny the living God. Oh, but they stood on test and came out victorious without denying God. Hear the reply of these three brave men in Dan 3:16-18, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up." And because they did not deny God, God Himself protected them and brought them out of the fiery furnace. The same thing happened with Daniel. He said in Dan 6:22, "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you." But at the same time Aaron could not stand on trials and it brought chaos and destruction among the whole congregation. God said in 1 Sam 2:30, "...for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed."Dear friend, trials and temptations are inevitable. You cannot stop them from coming, but if you trust God and love Him with all your heart, you will choose God instead of choosing people and their opinions. If you honor God, He will honor you and rescue you from your troubles.
Recently there was mass recall of spinach. The reason was that lethal strain of E. coli O157:H7 was found in it. Three persons were dead and many fell sick after eating spinach. According to sources if contaminated manure gets into irrigation water or is used in fertilizer, it can get onto fresh produce and can contaminate crops. Can you see that through contaminated manure the produce could become contaminated. I can say that our lives are also like that. There are TV programs, advertisements, magazines and internet where you can find complete trash programs, images, stories or such that could contaminate your mind and soul. If you continuously feed on those programs, it will certainly destroy your life. It will eat up your life. Watch out what you are feeding on. Before you click the dial of your TV, before you pick up a book or magazine, before you click a link on the internet and before you open a junk mail beware, it could contaminate and ultimately destroy your life.Often people say, "it is impossible to live a holy life. Temptations come crashing in and it is impossible to stand firm in those moments." My sister and I were so crazy to watch movies that when a new movie came in the theater, we used to watch the show on the first day itself so that any reel may not be cut. But a day came when we gave our lives in the mighty hands of Jesus. Around that time there was a new movie in the town and so my sister and I planned to go and watch. We went but that was the worst experience we had. We both felt as if to just runaway from that theater. We could not understand what was happening. With great difficulty we sat there thinking how three hours would pass and we could go home. That evening we were listening to a radio program of Bro. D.G.S.Dhinakaran. In that program he said, "either choose Jesus or the World because you cannot serve two masters." That night we chose Jesus. That was the last secular movie we had watched. There were times while flipping channels we came across familiar movies or songs and the old craziness for movies came alive, yet every time we had to choose between Jesus and the World. Every time God helped us to choose Jesus and protected us from this evil world. We cannot live a holy life by our own effort but when we give our lives in the mighty hands of Jesus, He gives grace to live a holy life. Yes, Jesus can help.The second most important thing in spiritual life is, "to be faithful". Today we hear so many news about secret life of people. Many look very decent and well mannered from the outside but not so in reality. Jesus said in Mat 23:27, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." Many think that nobody will know their secret sins but Jesus said in Luke 8:17, "For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light."Are you living a double life? Give your sins to Jesus. Give your shortcomings to Jesus. He will gladly take it. He said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Choose Jesus over World and He will give you grace to live for Him a holy life.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
