By Sherly Isaac

Very often I receive mail from a person who tells me, "Stop preaching about life after death while people are suffering in this world itself. There are many who worry about life after birth then what is the use of telling about life after death?"

Does the Bible or God care about life after birth? Recently I received a prayer request which was heart breaking. One family who live in Texas, USA was traveling. They met with an accident and lost their two children of 18 and 15 years old. Two years back they had lost one other kid in an accident. They had only three kids and they lost all their three children. Very often I think, why this should happen to anybody? But very often such tragedies tack place and it leaves people heart broken.

Is there any solution for the heart broken parents? Can they live happily in this world? Can they get peace under these horrible circumstances? Yes, they can! Jesus said in John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me." And when Jesus was about to leave this world, and when He saw that His disciples were very discouraged and disheartened, He said to them, in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Jesus promised to give perfect peace and joy at the most troubling moments of our lives. Bible says in Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You." If we trust God in every moment of our lives, He will keep us in perfect peace. In this world you cannot find peace from any other source except from Jesus who gives that perfect peace. Nothing can give you peace and joy, no matter how wealthy you may be today, no matter how grand and beautiful bungalow you may be having, but when tragedy strikes, your wealth and money cannot help you in any way.

There was a film actress in USA. Her name was Merlin Monroe. Because of her stunning beauty, people literally worshipped her. She was soon called by the name "screen goddess". She had everything in her life, money, beauty, followers, fame and what not. But all these things could not give her peace and a day came in her life when she committed suicide. This was the end of a person who had everything in this life except peace.

Today also many think that we do not need God but we need only money, shelter and bread to solve our problems. But the message of Jesus Christ not only gives hope for life after birth but also for life after death.

My dear friend, today you may be going through terrible problems, tragedies and tears but if you look to Jesus, He can help you and can wipe away all your tears. No matter what your need may be today, He will meet all your needs. No matter how worst the tragedy you may be facing in your life today, He is able to wipe away your tears. He is ready to restore your life. Will you look to Jesus?

God's Promises never fail

By Vinod Isaac

1 Sam 16:1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons."

1 Sam 16:2 And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." And the LORD said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'
1 Sam 16:3 "Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you."
1 Sam 16:4 So Samuel did what the LORD said.

Eliab the eldest son of Jesse was brought before Samuel and the Lord rejected him. Next Abinadab was brought before Samuel and again Lord rejected him. Then Shamma was brought before Samuel and again Lord rejected him. One by one the seven sons of Jesse were brought before Samuel and they were all rejected.

1 Sam 16:11 And Samuel said to Jesse, "Are all the young men here?" Then he said, "There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep." And Samuel said to Jesse, "Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here."

David was brought before Samuel and Lord said, “this is the one.”

What do we see here? Lord sent Samuel to Jesse's house to anoint David. Samuel convayed the message that the Lord had asked him to convey. David might have been very happy to hear that he is going to become King of Israel. A very great promise from the Lord. Have you received a promise from the Lord. A very big promise? Most of the time don't we think that if Lord has promised something it should happen immediately and exactly as what has been spoken? Let us examine what happened in the life of David.

Now Saul got into a little bit trouble. Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul and a distressing spirit or an evil spirit troubled him. So a skillfull mucision was needed to calm him down. Guess what? Who ended up being Saul's mucision? He was none other than David. David could have two types of thoughts. On the one side he could have thought, “may be this is the opening for me to become King of Israel” or on the other side he could have thought, “Lord didn't call me to be a musician to King, but He has called me to be King. So what am I doing here? It is an oppertunity no doubt to set in. Did Lord really call me to become King or did He call me to become just King's helper? Did Samuel really said that I am going to become King? If Lord has called you for ministry, If He has given you a promise, it is for sure that you will go through this kind of situation.

Time passes by and one day David defeats Goliath and there is celebration all over Israel. Women singing Saul has killed only thousands and David has killed ten thousands. David may be thinking, “what a glorious day it is. Now I know that Lord has really called me to be the King of Israel.” But all of a sudden one day when David is playing harp Saul tries to attack him with spear. David escaped unhurt. Again there was another day and Saul tries to kill David again and David escapes unhurt. But it's another oppertunity to think, Did God really call me to be the King of Israel? If He has then why don't he just make me King? Why I should go through this trouble? You may be going through this situation today. Lord called you and gave you promises but you are going through trouble? and thinking why everything is going in opposite direction? Don't get disheartened for David went through the same situation. Even in the midst of trouble Lord's protection was with David.

Every day David could have been hoping, “today Lord will make every thing right.”

One day he gets the information through Jonathan that Saul had instructed his servants to kill David. Now David had to run for his life. In 1 Samuel 21:1 we read that David went to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. Just a brief stay there. Saul gets the news that David had been to Ahimelech the priest. He calls Achimlech and the whole house of Ahimelech's father and kills 85 priests of the Lord - Just because David had a short stay in Ahimelech's place. David has some thing more to think about it. “Why should 85 people die because of me. Why this trouble? Just to make me king of Israel?” When God calls a person with great promise there are times when people who are associated with that person suffer as well. Are you going through this situation today? Are you saying that Lord has called me but why should others suffer because of it? Don't get disheartened. Lord's decisions are perfect and they are wise.

After that David made his stay in the cave of Adullam. An oppertunity to think, “Lord promised me that I will become king but this cave is no palace. I don't have soft and flowery bed to sleep. Has Lord really promised it? Can Samuel be a false prophet? He said that Lord has anointed me to become king but here I am having nothing.” David can think all these things but what we read further in 1 Sam 23 which clearly indicates that David had trusted the Lord. He asked the Lord what to do in each step. He asked the Lord if he should go to Keilah and the Lord said go. He had victory over the Philistines there. But the celebration of this victory was short lived as David got the news that Saul is coming to Keilah to get him. David again asked the Lord, “shall I stay in Keilah or go away.”

1 Sam 23:12 Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will deliver you."

So David had to flee from there again and had to stay in the wilderness of Ziph. It must have been a frustrating and tiresome experience for David. “Lord called me to become king but every thing here is going wrong.”

Johnathan comes and comforts David.
1 Sam 23:16 Then Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.
1 Sam 23:17 And he said to him, "Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that."

But how much comfort that's going to be when Saul is chasing him with all the might of Israel’s army with him. Saul pursues to find David in the wilderness of Ziph and David flees to the wilderness of Maon. Saul again pursues him in the wilderness of Maon. David runs for his life and goes to the wilderness of En-Gedi and Saul pursues him there also. David had two oppertunities to kill Saul but he did not because he feared God.

He calls out to saul and says to him in 1 Sam 24:12-14
1 Sam 24:12 "Let the LORD judge between you and me, and let the LORD avenge me on you. But my hand shall not be against you.
1 Sam 24:13 "As the proverb of the ancients says, 'Wickedness proceeds from the wicked.' But my hand shall not be against you.
1 Sam 24:14 "After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

And Saul answers him saying,
1 Sam 24:17 Then he said to David: "You are more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil.
1 Sam 24:18 "And you have shown this day how you have dealt well with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me.
1 Sam 24:19 "For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him get away safely? Therefore may the LORD reward you with good for what you have done to me this day.
1 Sam 24:20 "And now I know indeed that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

But even after that, Saul did not stop pursuing David. In all these things David might have thought, “I don't want this kingship if it has so much of trouble associated with it. I was good with my shephard's job. It was tension free and very relaxing. Why should I put myself in trouble like this?” May be you are also thinking in the same way. But Lord's promises are A and Amen. In all these troubles Lord was with David. He was protected by the Lord. Finally David became King of Israel and he was the best king Israel ever had. Our Lord Jesus Christ was born in the lineage of David. He was called son of David. Only because David walked with God. Even when things pressed him too hard he enquired of the Lord. He asked the Lord what to do in every step. Has Lord called you for ministry? Has he promised you big things? But are things going in the wrong direction? Is the trouble you are facing too much for you to handle? Just seek His face. Just continue to obey him and hold fast to what He has given you. Day will come when He will fulfill His promises and use you according to His own will.

God who heals our broken hearts

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in Luke 7:12-15, "And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother."

This is the story of a woman who lived in the place called Nain. She was a widow and now her only son died. Oh, she was in tears. Death is not a pleasant thing for anybody. This is the most tragic thing which can happen to anybody. Here is a woman who buried her husband and now she was ready to bury her beloved son. How her heart would have been broken. And it happened that Jesus was passing by that place where the dead man was being carried out. Jesus looked at the weeping mother and He was moved with great compassion and said to her, "Do not weep." He did not simply stop there, but touched the coffin and said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And a mighty miracle took place. The young man who was dead sat up and began to speak. Then the Bible further says that Jesus presented the young man to his mother.

How happy she would have felt when she saw her son sitting and talking and alive and well. Yes, God of the Bible is the compassionate God. Tears of a broken heart moves Him to do something. Bible says in Psa 34:18, "The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit."

And also in Psa 51:17, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise."

God wants to heal our broken hearts and wants to give us a life full of joy and happiness. Bible says in Prov 17:22, "A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones." It is not God's will that you live as a broken hearted person and die in misery. but He wants to heal your brokenness.

Joseph went through terrible trials in his life but when he came out of prison and when he prospered, his response was, Gen 41:51-52, "Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: "For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house. And the name of the second he called Ephraim: "For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction."

Yes, my friend, God wants to bless and wipe away your tears, He wants to heal our broken hearts. You may be thinking, "there is no hope for me, I have hit the bottom and no one can help me...." But let me tell you about a wonderful person who can heal your broken heart completely and bless your life. Give your life in the mighty hands of Jesus and you will never be the same again.
