Exploitation called Evangelization

“Exploitation called Evangelization”, does this title shock you? Last Sunday when we went to our Church and as my mom sitting beside me was reading the parish messenger, I glanced through it and when I read the title, I was completely shocked. More shocking was the message. It said that the Pharisees and Sadducees went around and tried to evangelize the world through exploitation and through making big institutions and big buildings. I quote here, “Judaism had been doing evangelism for the sake of materializing their religious agenda. Judaism thought that without institutions, money, property, evangelism cannot be put into practice.” But the Bible says differently. I think that they (in Judaism) never did evangelism but were trying to follow their traditions and rituals and to impose the same on others. They were simply extorting or exploiting people for their own gain, fame and name. It was complete deception to use the word Evangelism for exploitation by the Jews. It is a deliberate attempt to demonize the Evangelism i.e. the proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ by thousands of ministries around the globe. Jesus condemned their misdeeds giving a long list of it in Mat 23:1-33. I will write some of the points that Jesus pointed out in their lives. Here are some highlights: · Whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.· But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.· They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.· But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.· Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.· Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it. Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?· Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!· Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also· Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.· Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.· Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?You can see how many misdeeds they were doing and yet they were thinking that they were righteous and finally Jesus asks them, “Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?” The meaning of Evangelism is to preach the “Good News” and the Pharisees and Sadducees were absolutely not doing that. They were simply extorting or exploiting people for their own gain, fame and name. Jesus condemned them because of their wickedness and their evilness.But what is “Evangelism” or “Good News”? Good News is that by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, every person can receive forgiveness of sins. Jesus paid full payment for our sins on the cross. By His shed blood He gave atonement for our sins. We cannot achieve salvation of our souls by our good works or big amount of sacrifice but only through the shed blood of Jesus.
Blessed is the man – Part 2
Psa 2:12, “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”The second chapter of Psalms also talks about a blessed person. Blessed person is the one who trusts in the Lord. If we read the twelfth verse it says that , “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way…” What does this mean?We all have sinned against God and come short of the glory of God. We all need forgiveness of our sins. Jesus came in this world to take away our sins. He shed His precious blood on the cross. While we are still in this world if we accept Him as our personal Lord and Savior, He is ready to forgive and forget all our sins and is ready to give us a new life. But if we fail to receive forgiveness of our sins, there is a punishment waiting. Jesus again and again explained that hell is waiting for those who do not know God. And Psalms 2:12 says the same thing. You may be born in a Christian home but it is important to know God personally. Also God promised protection for His children. Psa 2:1-5, “Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure:”Yes, there is a God who wants to save us from hell fire and protect us from all evil. If you give your life to Him, He will bless you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 14th July. 2009
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 14th Jul. 2009
