John 1:17, “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Once I heard the story of a laundryman and his wife who lived in a small town. They used to collect dirty laundry from house to house, load on their donkey and go to wash it at the riverside. Day after day while going for washing the cloth, often his wife complained about the heavy duty she had to do. So the laundryman got an idea. He said to his wife, “let us divide the work between us and make a list of work to be done.” He said that the works listed in his list, she need not to do and the works listed in her list, he need not to do. Both of them agreed to work according to the list with them. For two three days everything went well and the laundryman’s wife was very happy. They fulfilled their duties abiding to their list. One day while they were returning after finishing all their washings, the laundryman’s wife slipped and fell down. Some of the cloths also fell on dirt. She could not get up and so she called her husband for help. The laundryman looked toward his fallen wife and took out his list and looked in his list. He said, “There is no work listed here as to lift you up so I cannot help.” That’s what law does to us. We have laws of Moses with us but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Law requires work but Jesus fulfilled the law on the cross. Jesus Christ did the work of our salvation and He paid in full the price of our redemption on the cruel cross. Bible says in James 2:10, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” That is the reason why Jesus Christ came to redeem us as we read in Gal 3:13-14, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Many in this world work very hard to earn their salvation but there is no assurance of salvation through our good works or our rituals. There is only one way to get rid of our sins and that is through the pure and uncorrupted blood of Jesus. His blood cleanses us from all our sins. Are you loaded with sin and guilt? Come to Jesus and unload your burdens at His feet. He will gladly take your burdens and will give you rest. He will fill you with great peace and joy. He promised in Mat 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
In the 2nd chapter of the book of John we read about Jesus starting His ministry with signs and wonders. We read about a mighty miracle of Jesus in John 2:1-11. Jesus, His disciples and His mother were invited to the wedding in Cana of Galilee. While He was attending the wedding feast, His mother told Him about the disaster, the embarrassing situation in their host’s house of the running short of wine in the midst of the function. In the midst of chaos and frustration Jesus’ mother remembers how to solve the problem, that is, to tell the situation to Jesus. When she spoke about the problem of the host, she knew that the solution is with Jesus. At times when we go through troubles and problems often, we need to remember that there is a mighty God who could help us in our dire situation. At times we fail to ask God and we do not receive as we read in James 4:2, “You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.” But Jesus’ mother knew the secret of asking Him. In those moments of despair Jesus was in their midst and He performed a miracle as we read in John 2:7-10, “Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" This is what happens when Jesus is with us. In our moments of despair, troubles and heartbreaks, He would never leave us nor forsake us. His presence makes a difference and when we tell Him our entire situation, He takes care of it. Bible tells us in 1 Pet 5:7, “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” Often we worry and lose our heart thinking about our impossible situations but if Jesus is our God we need not to worry because the awesome God is with us. Why lose our heart when Jesus is able to take care of everything. Let the worry part be done by Jesus. If this awesome God is your God, He can turn around your situation no matter what you are facing. This awesome God who changed just a colorless, tasteless and odorless liquid called water into colorful, tasty and refreshing wine, He can change anything in your life. He can change every dull moment of your life and make it full of life if you just give your life to Him. There will be no more dull moments no more restlessness nor hopelessness. He came to give us abundant life. If you feel that your life is completely meaningless and a complete waste, you need Jesus in your life and a new life that comes through Jesus alone.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 14th Feb. 2012
