When I was in college I had a friend. Her brother was an intelligent engineer. One day he and his family went to Kerala, India, his native place and selected a beautiful eighteen years old girl for wedding. She was the only child to her parents. She hailed from a very wealthy family. The marriage was arranged and according to the dowry custom of Kerala, the boy received 101 ounces of gold, much property and cash in dowry. They had a grand wedding. Everything went well and everybody were happy. It seemed that the boy and the girl had a very bright future. But alas everything came crashing down when the young man who had just got married a week back committed suicide. The eighteen years old young girl who had probably never seen any sorrow in her life faced the most sorrowful moment in her life. In that young age she became a widow losing her young husband. When I heard the news, I was shell-shocked. Every person asked the one question, why? Did he not pick the girl of his choice? Did he not receive so much of wealth which was even enough for him to enjoy for his whole life? Why this intelligent man who had a promising future needed to take this drastic step? Why? I still don’t know the answer neither those who asked this question. But one thing is clear that he was somehow frustrated in his life. Somewhere in his heart there was unbearable pain and sorrow that led him to take this drastic step. Yes, my friend, this world does not offer true peace and joy. No matter how successful you could be, no matter how wealthy you could be, no matter how many parties you do and go and dance in night clubs, yet you cannot find true peace and joy from those things. This world does not have an answer for your inner peace and great joy. This young man had everything but he found his life meaningless. But committing suicide is not the answer to achieve inner peace and joy. If you really want to have perfect peace and joy in your life, you need to come to Jesus who promised in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus looked at His frightened disciples while He was about to leave this world and told them in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”My friend, you could be facing a desperate situation today and may be thinking that there could be no other situation more desperate than this. But let me tell you that Jesus went through the most desperate situation in His life as no one ever faced. He came to His own and they did not accept Him. His own beat him. His own spitted Him on His face. His own crucified Him whom He loved greatly. Do you know that when your own disowns you, it hurts much more than if done by an outsider. Jesus was greatly wounded. He was desperate and disappointed. Do you feel that you are all-alone and lonely? Jesus was lonelier than you. This man named Jesus who preached to crowds of thousands was all-alone when He went through trials and finally to the cross. All His disciples fled away from Him. He was so lonely that in desperation He cried out as in Mat 27:46,"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Yes, this is the same Jesus whom the world adored and tried to stick around Him as much as possible but when He needed most, nobody was there to help Him. Even His disciples were not ready to uphold Him in prayer. They could not understand the agony of Lord Jesus. But I have good news that the same Jesus understands our desperations and loneliness. If we call upon His name, He will come and rescue us. He will fill us with great peace and joy that this world cannot give but comes from Jesus alone.
It is my wish and my dream A new day will surely arrive in my countryOne day the sun of righteousness shall arise With healing in his wings; And my people shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves. In that day every face will shine brightEvery eye will have hope of a better futureEvery man, every woman and every childWill have great peace and joyThe barns would be full And the water and bread will not fail.In that day no mother would shed tearsAnd make her baby go in bed hungryNo father has to beg for livingIn that day blessings and happiness will flowMy land will become the land of milk and honeyWhere milk and honey will flowYes, a new day will surely come In the land where I was born and raisedThe day would be of great joyThe day of great freedom And my land will be in perfect peace.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
